Noortele diasporaauurijatele mõeldud seminarisarja seitsmes seminar toimus 19. mail Tallinna Ülikooli Akadeemilises Raamatukogus. Seekord oli teemaks Kanada eestlaste ajaloo uurimine.

Tallinna Ülikooli ajaloo doktorant Maarja Merivoo-Parro ettekanne põhines tema kunagisel bakalaureusetööl Kanada eestlaste ja Eesti eestlaste kultuuripoliitilistest käitumismustritest taasiseseisvumise ajastul. Omamoodi laulvaks revolutsiooniks võib nimetada ka ju Kanada eestlaste viis aastakümmet kestnud eestluse hoidmisele ja teadvustamisele pühendatud kultuuritegevust. Nii tutvustaski Maarja kuulajatele Eesti ja Kanada kogemuste erinevusi, sarnasusi ja olulisust.

Järgmise ettekande pidas Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemia muusikateaduse magistrant Anneli Palmet, andes hea ülevaate Eesti koorimuusika siirdumisest pagulusse. Ettekande põhirõhk oli kooritegevuse algusaegadel põgenikelaagrites, kuid mainiti ka neile järgnenud aastakümneid ja kooritegevust Kanadas.

Eesti Kunstiakadeemia rahvakunsti ja kultuuriantropoloogia magistrant Jane Kalajärv rääkis veebruarikuus uurimismetodoloogiast seoses välitöödega Torontos. Seekordsel seminaril keskendus ta välitööde tulemusel valminud uurimusele Kanada eestlaste kultuuriidentiteedist ja koduinterjöörist.

Nii Jane kui ka Anneli ettekanded põhinesid nende sel kevadel kaitstavatel magistritöödel.

Seminari lõpetas Triinu Ojamaa tänavu ilmunud raamatu “60 aastat eesti koorilaulu multikultuurses Torontos” esitlus. Seminaril osalejad said teost sirvida ja kuulda autori enda suust, mis ajendas seda kirjutama, miks ja kuidas algselt brošüürina kavandatud väljaanne töö käigus mahukaks raamatuks kasvas. Seejuures rõhutas Triinu Ojamaa, et materjali eesti koorilaulu kohta nii Kanadas kui muudes asukohamaades on veel palju.
