Näitus “Alberta’s Estonians 1899 – Present” TLÜ Akadeemilises Raamatukogus
Viimase pooleteise sajandi jooksul on rännuteed viinud sadu tuhandeid eestlasi kõikjale üle maailma. Vabatahtlikult või vastutahtsi on eestlaste uuteks elupaikadeks saanud nii elust kihisevad suurlinnad kui ürgse loodusega perifeeriad.
Üheks värvikaks leheküljeks meie rändeloos on eesti asundused Alberta provintsis Kanadas, kuhu esimesed eestlased saabusid 1899. aastal, olles pioneerideks tolles külalislahkes riigis, mis hiljem on avanud oma uksed nii tuhandetele pagulaseestlastele kui ka majandusmigrantidele iseseisvuse taastanud Eesti Vabariigist.
Täna, enam kui sajand peale esimeste asunike Albertasse saabumist, on sealne eestlaskond endiselt silmapaistvalt aktiivne, tundes sügavat huvi oma päritolu ja juurte kohta, olles selle tarbeks asutanud ka Alberta Eesti Kultuuripärandi Seltsi (AEKS). Energilise tegevuse tulemused on tähelepanuväärsed – ühine minevik on jäädvustatud nii dokumentaalfilmina (Alberta’s Estonians, 2007) kui ka sisuka raamatuna (Freedom, Land, & Legacy: Alberta’s Estonians 1899 – 2009, 2010). Lisaks antakse 1989. aastast alates välja ingliskeelset ajakirja Ajakaja.
2012. aasta kevadel valmis AEKS-il koostöös Alberta Provintsi Arhiivi Kultuuripärandi Osakonnaga Edmontonis esinduslik näitus “Alberta’s Estonians 1899 – Present”, mis jutustab ohtralt illustreerituna vaatajale Alberta eestlaste loo. On heal meel märkida, et Tallinna Ülikooli Akadeemilise Raamatukogu (TLÜ AR) Väliseesti kirjanduse keskuse ja AEKS-i koostöös on see lugu jõudnud nüüd ka Eestisse, kus näitusega saab kuni juuni lõpuni tutvuda TLÜ AR-i II korruse trepihallis (Rävala pst 10).
