The European premiere of Helga Merits’ documentary “The Paradox of Seabrook Farm: Broken Dreams, Restored Hopes” will take place on June 29 at 6:00 PM at the “Artis” cinema in Tallinn.

Spring, and now the transition into summer, has been a busy and fruitful time for EstoCast, the podcast produced by VEMU Estonian Museum Canada, its project Estonian Music Week, and Estonian Life newspaper. Our listener base has steadily grown, and we now have a steady base of returning listeners – this listener base continues to expand, and we expect to see even more growth in season 4. We’ve brought interesting, captivating, and educational interviews to the public, including discussions with people in the arts sector, language studies, and beyond.

In the middle of May, for the tenth year, Lithuanian diaspora researchers gathered at the National Library of Lithuania. The seminar, organized annually (with only one exception during the COVID pandemic) in the spring, was attended by researchers from the Vytautas Magnus University, Vilnius University, the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, the Lithuanian Institute of History, and the organizer of the event, National Library of Lithuania.

In the contented warmth of Arvo Pärt’s “Morning Star,” the concluding notes rang out, like a surge of electricity through a brightening lightbulb. The sun had set on the last day of 2025’s Estonian Music Week, and yet, there was a glow in the sanctum of the church. An exhilarating voyage was complete.

On 12 May, Estonia, in cooperation with Latvia and Lithuania, opened an exhibition entitled Lessons of World War II. The Baltic Way to UN Membership at the UN Headquarters in New York, aimed at raising awareness of the crimes committed by the Communist regime of the Soviet Union (USSR).

England in spring is beautiful, it’s in bloom and full of greenery. The 16th Conference on Baltic Studies in Europe (CBSE) “Converging Paths: The Baltic Between East and West” took place in Cambridge from April 24th-26th, organised by the Baltic Program of the Centre for Geopolitics at the University of Cambridge and the AABS network. As in previous years, the CBSE conference covered a wide range of topics, bringing together scholars from different disciplines and career stages from all over the world that research the Baltic region.

Vabamu, Stanford University Libraires and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia invite applications for 3 fellowships for Estonian Scholars. The application deadline for the fellowships is May 19, 2025.

This year, the Summer School for Students with Estonian Roots will take place from 3 to 8 August 2025.

From April 24–26, the 16th Conference on Baltic Studies in Europe took place in Cambridge, the United Kingdom under the title “Converging Paths: The Baltic Between East and West.” The conference was organised by the Baltic Programme at the Centre for Geopolitics, University of Cambridge in cooperation with the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies and other local partners.

Some moments in life are more important than others. For example, the moment when you feel that you have finally found your place. VEMU Estonian Museum Canada is exactly this lovely and homely meeting place for many Estonians abroad. And so, the mission that brought almost a hundred people to the hall on Saturday is all the more important. They didn’t come just for fun, but to develop the same Estonian things that VEMU has officially been doing since 2009, for which the foundation was laid through the work of Tartu College more than 50 years ago.
