The third World Lithuanian Writers’ Congress took place in Vilnius at the beginning of June. This year, almost thirty writers from Ireland, Australia, Belarus, Belgium, Spain, Italy, the USA, the United Kingdom, Poland, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, France and Germany participated in the event.
It has become a tradition to welcome participants of the World Lithuanian Writers’ Congress at the National Library of Lithuania. An exhibit of books of the authors present at the event was displayed.
The guests viewed the books by their fellow authors, took photographs of them, browsed through publications and donated new ones to the library and its readers.
The guests listened to a couple of presentations delivered by the staff of the library. Dainius Vaitiekūnas, representative of the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Head of the Lithuanian Studies Unit of the National Library of Lithuania, discussed the funding possibilities for the diaspora writers. Justinas Vancevičius, Head of the Children’s and Youth Literature Center, talked about the Book of the Year campaign, in which diaspora writers can also participate.
