A Book Event at the National Library of Lithuania
On November 6, the book Lithuania Transforms the West (Ibidem Press, 2024) by Dr. Darius Furmonavičius, historian and political scholar, was presented and discussed at the National Library of Lithuania.
The book analyzes Lithuania’s liberation from Soviet occupation, accession and integration into NATO (1988–2022), and provides an overview of Lithuania’s influence on international relations and strengthening security in Europe over the past three decades.
It invites to embark on an impressive journey of Lithuania’s security—from the courageous liberation from the oppression of the Soviet Union to Lithuania’s establishment in the ranks of NATO. The author of the book examines in detail how this path formed the foundations in Lithuania, as well as the entire transatlantic security system. Based on rare sources and interviews, the author reveals the decisive events, especially the 1990–1991 drama, and provides new insights into Lithuania’s role on the European security map.
