A Documentary about the Lithuanian American Camp

This fall, a premiere of a documentary film “This Village in America” directed by Ramunė Rakauskaitė took place at the Lithuanian Documentary Film Festival in Chicago. The documentary tells the story of the camp Dainava that has been established by the Ateitininkai Federation in the United States and operating in Michigan for seventy years.

BaltHerNet Youth Seminar Revives Tradition of Baltic Diaspora Research

On November 21, 2025, the BaltHerNet Youth Seminar brought new energy to the tradition of gatherings for young researchers of the Baltic diaspora. Held at the LaPa Museum in Riga, the seminar gathered students and scholars from three universities, alongside experts from key heritage institutions including the Latvians Abroad Museum, the National Archives of Latvia, the National Archives of Estonia, the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, and the University of Latvia.

VEMU’s Second Book Fair Draws Strong Interest

On Saturday, November 8, VEMU hosted its second book fair, “Rahvas algab raamatust” (“A Nation Begins With a Book”) at Tartu College. The event opened with a live video link to Tartu’s Town Hall Square, where Estonia was marking an important anniversary: on November 8, 1525, the first known mention of printed texts in Estonian, Latvian, and Livonian appeared in Lübeck cathedral dean Johannes Brandes’ records. To celebrate this milestone, a new literary collection “Eesti raamatu lood” (“Estonian Book Stories”) was premiered, featuring works by Leelo Tungal, Urmas Vadi, Meelis Friedenthal, Indrek Hargla, and Kristiina Ehin.

Maestro Paavo Järvi Returns to Toronto

Estonian conductor Maestro Paavo Järvi, internationally acclaimed for his exceptional mastery of orchestral leadership, returned to Toronto this fall for a series of performances with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. From the moment the audience entered the famed Roy Thomson Hall, the atmosphere was charged with anticipation. Among the crowd were many local Estonians who knew they were in for a memorable evening.

Two Books by Danish Authors Presented in Lithuania

In October 2025, the Danish Cultural Institute in the Baltic States, together with the Royal Danish Embassy in Lithuania, in cooperation with local partners, presented two books: Ebbe Flatau’s autobiographical book, Litauen I / Lietuva I (translated from Danish by Loreta Vaicekauskienė) and Thomas Græsbøll Svaneborg and Brian Traantoft Rasmussen’s Flugten fra Stalin (Escape from Stalin).
