Memoirs about Lithuanians in Gestapo Prisons

The National Library of Lithuania has published the memoirs of Gabrielius Žemkalnis (1929–2017) Lithuanians in Gestapo Prisons (compiled by Dalia Cidzikaitė). According to the historian Dr. Ilona Strumickienė, the book takes the reader back to the Nazi German occupation, revealing the experiences of Lithuanian resistance fighters and opening yet another page of suffering, hope, strength, solidarity and ingenuity in Lithuanian history.

The Year of the Book Events in Toronto

On January 30, the Year of the Estonian Book was ceremoniously declared in Estonia as having begun, which celebrates the passing of 500 years since the first publication to include Estonian texts was published. In celebration of this, various events are also taking place at VEMU Estonian Museum Canada.

Exhibition “I Often Forget”

On January 27, 2025, the exhibition “I Often Forget” by Lithuanian American artist Jonas Kulikauskas opened at the Exhibition Hall of the National Library of Lithuania. Using a WWII-era lens and a modern 8 x 10-inch camera, the artist embarked on a journey to capture today’s life in the former Vilna Ghetto.
