Archival Information System or AIS is a database of the Estonian National Archives that contains information on the documents preserved in the archives. AIS is similar to the electronic databases used in libraries that help users to find books. Similarly, AIS enables users to find documents (i.e. archival records) with the help of keywords. However, to read or view most of the records users have to come to the archives. AIS has links for digitised archival records that can be viewed on the web.
Users can search for documents by typing in keword(s) or by giving the particulars of a relevant descriptive unit. More detailed information on how to do search at AIS can be found on the front page of AIS under What is AIS (in Estonian only; for the English version click In English).
