Baltic-Canadian Imprints – молодежь и пожилые люди собрались во имя сохранения балтийского наследия

Общество помощи иммигантам The Canadian Baltic Immigrant Aid Society, Центр эстонских исследований/VEMU, Литовский музей-архив в Канаде и Латвийский архив и музей в Канаде (Латвийская национальная федерация в Канаде) получили финансовую поддержку программы «Новые горизонты для пожилых», федеральной программы грантов, подерживающей проекты, инициированные или проводящиеся пожилыми людьми.
Известная как Baltic-Canadian Imprints (Балтийско-канадские следы), новая организация сотрудничества запустила проект «Snapshot Stories» (Фотографические истории), который свел молодежь с пожилыми людьми, разделяющими общее балтийское наследие, чтобы собирать устный исторический материал. Посредством интервью и демонстрации значимых для них фотографий, документов и артефактов, пожилые люди будут делиться своим личным опытом, культурной идентичностью и осмыслением балтийского наследия с молодежью своей общины. Пожилые люди являются носителями культурной истории, а поколение послевоенных иммигрантов стремительно исчезает. Поэтому для нас наступил критический момент, чтобы перенять и задокументировать богатые культурные знания, которые может предложить нам это поколение.
Записи, фотографии и информация, собранные через проект «Snapshot Stories», будут использованы, чтобы создать выставку, которая откроется в феврале 2017 года в Центре эстонских исследований/VEMU в Торонто. Каждая вовлеченная организация может также добавить информацию и материалы в свои архивные коллекции, тем самым они будут сохранены для соответствующих общин, академиков, историков и будущих поколений.
Этот впечатляющий проект привлекает пожилых людей как культурных менторов и дает молодежи возможность прийти к новому пониманию и уважению своего культурного наследия. Это также послужит укреплению балтийского присутствия в мультикультурной общине Онтарио.
