Kaja Kumer-HaukanõmmKaja Kumer-Haukanõmm (b. 1975) has a Master’s degree in history (University of Tartu, 2005), and is currently doing her PhD in the Institute of History and Archaeology at the University of Tartu. She has been working since 2004 as a specialist in the Centre for Estonian Migration and Diaspora Studies at the University of Tartu. The main fields of research are the flight of Estonians to the West (primarily to Germany) due to World War II, US foreign policy regarding the Baltic states during and after World War II, via the Baltic refugee issue, the creation of post-World War II Estonian communities throughout the world, Estonians abroad. She is a member of the Estonian Archives Abroad working group, and a founding member of the Baltic Heritage Network.
